Safety

Demolition is an inherently dangerous business, which is why safety is our number one priority here at RCD Demolition in Tucson, AZ. Our safety precautions go above and beyond to protect our valued employees. By using modernized, well-maintained demolition equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), and by rigorously training all employees, RCD Demolition sets the standard for safety in the demolition field. In fact, we’ve been recognized by other contractors for our commitment to safety excellence. In 2015, our company was awarded the Certificate of Recognition from Barker Morrissey Contracting for Outstanding Achievement in Safety Practices. This award is a reflection of our dedication to continually improving our safety practices, so that every employee returns home safely to their family each day.

SCREENING AND TRAINING PROCESS FOR EMPLOYEES

Our safety practices begin with our hiring process. There are a few things we look for when hiring a new employee:

  • Experience in the demolition industry
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn safe equipment usage practices
  • Commitment to uphold all of our safety standards and practices.
  • Track record of adhering to safety standards on previous job sites.

Of course, we also strive to hire employees who are hard-working, ethical individuals who will embrace our mission and values. After hiring, each new worker is required to undergo a demolition industry specific training and awareness program, which includes mandatory safety training videos. New employees must pass a 10-hour OSHA training program. Each new employee will also spend a period of time working closely with the field manager. This one-on-one training provides valuable guidance for our new employees on upholding all safety standards and maintaining awareness of potential hazards on job sites. We also offer to our employees forklift and aerial man lift training.

However, our safety training doesn’t stop there. Each employee participates in regularly scheduled safety meetings and jobsite safety training sessions. In addition, each project foreman on each jobsite has successfully passed a 30-hour OSHA training program. RCD Demolition also has our own in-house, full-time Safety Officer/Risk Manager to ensure all job sites are as safe as possible and all employees are compliant.

HOW WE PROTECT OUR EMPLOYEES

Our safety practices extend beyond our training methodology. All employees are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on job sites. These include the following:

  • Hardhat
  • Safety glasses
  • Work gloves
  • High-visibility safety vests
  • Ear plugs when loud equipment is in use
  • Long-sleeve shirts with Kevlar sleeves and long work pants
  • Safety boots with toe guards or metatarsal guards when necessary
  • Face shields when using grinders or circular blade saw

In addition, we take steps to protect our workers from the hot Arizona summers. During the peak of summer, we begin work at the crack of dawn to take advantage of the cooler early morning hours.
